How to spend a day in Chiswick, a leafy residential neighbourhood outside of central London.

Chiswick is one of my favorite areas to stay in outside of central London: it's under 30 minutes from London Heathrow Airport, and much cheaper than the hotels in London Bridge or other parts of central London.
What to do in Chiswick?
Chiswick Gardens & Chiswick House

After breakfast, we strolled through Chiswick Gardens towards Chiswick House and relished the greenery and wildlife.
If you visit during spring (late March/ early April), you'll definitely have to visit Staveley Road where there are 2 rows of Cherry Blossom Trees as far as the eye can see. A lady we met there told us she was very unimpressed with the ones in Japan after growing up on Staveley Road!
Walk along the River Thames
This is my FAVE thing to do in Chiswick but the River Thames is a bit further about (about 20-30 minutes from Chiswick High Street.)
Explore the High Street
It's a residential area, so the High Street has everything you would need if you lived here: some clothing boutiques, charity shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, bookshops, etc
Where to Stay

There are several hotels in the area but we were so satisfied with Clayton Hotel that we always stay there. (Click through for the full review of Clayton Hotel Chiswick.)
However, I'm very tempted to try room2 London Chiswick Hometel- like Clayton Hotel, the rooms have AC but it is closer to Chiswick High Street (just behind), and has laundry and a kitchen! The rooms are much more stylish than Clayton Hotel but some are smaller (smaller bathrooms too.)
Where to Eat
Chisiwick doesn't have as many good restaurants as London Bridge but it has a FANTASTIC pub scene!
The Bell & Crown

We had breakfast at one of the Fuller’s pubs: The Bell & Crown, a classic by the river. It’s recently been refurbished (just reopened in March 2026), and the new glass frontage overlooking the Thames is lovely, elegant and airy. The service was also stellar.
La Trompette
This 1- Michelin starred restaurant does a good lunch deal Wednesday- Friday. (Last order is at 2 p.m.) It's located off the main Chiswick High Street and service is quite good: I walked in wearing ultra casual clothes (jeans and a T-shirt) and they were still very welcoming. Would return to Chiswick JUST for for this pub! (Tip: take a stroll behind the pub, along the River Thames, once you're done with your meal!)
George IV

Another Fuller's pub, this time on Chiswick High Street. (If you're wondering why there are so many Fuller's pubs, it's because Chiswick is very close to the Fuller's brewery. Before these 2 visits to Fuller's pubs, I used to be a bit snooty about chain pubs and preferred independents/ gastropubs, but the beyond excellent service has made me a Fullers convert!) We ordered the fried chicken wings, which were deliciously crispy. The cabbage side dish was also well-charred and scrumptious. Service was amazing: I asked about the sauces so they kindly gave me all 4 types! (I recommend the Korean sauce.) Both of us would be happy to eat here again.
Hare and Tortoise

One of the few pan-Asian restaurants in the neighbourhood. I enjoyed the Alaska (Malaysian-style- it was ALMOST authentic, but not 100%, something the waitress was very honest about) but my Mom found her ramen too salty towards the end. (I'd return but she wouldn't.) If you dine here, remember to sign up for their membership programme: just ordering 2 bowls of noodles entitles us to a free starter on our next visit!
Mali's

A cafe on the High Street which opens up to al fresco dining when the weather permits, this is a popular neighbourhood haunt. Personally, I found it just OK. There was nothing memorable about the experience, service, or food. (Sort of pretty but not that tasty.) Both Mum and I agree this can be skipped in future.
Note: given the 2.0 rating on TripAdvisor at the time of writing, I guess we're not the only ones who feel this way!
All in all, Chiswick is a great neighbourhood to spend a day or weekend outside of central London. Any questions bout what to do, eat or where to stay in Chiswick? Let me know in the comments!
